The Retreat Reviews

Philip
The Retreat is a really wonderful home from home. Warm, comfortable, spacious but cosy. The facilities are fab. The hot tub got plenty of use and cooking for 10 was super easy in the brilliantly well equipped kitchen. 10 of us had a lovely 3 days bringing the New Year.
We could not have imagined a more perfect spot to spend Christmas with our family. Stunning scenery, an outstanding property, and hosts that anticipated and accommodated our every need and wish. This is the best holiday experience in all our years of travel The Retreat comes with our highest possible recommendation.
Claire
The Retreat is an absolutely stunning holiday home with everything you could need for a relaxing getaway. Space, comfort and peace in a well equipped house hosted by the delightful Mark. We had an amazing time and can't wait to go back.
Lovely property, pleased we chose it and Mark was helpful and responsive whenever needed. What a view! Suited us well on location for visiting family.
Phoebe
We loved our stay at The Retreat. 10 of us plus a baby stayed for the weekend and couldn't have been better looked after! Mark, the host, was extremely responsive prior to our trip and after we arranged a HUGE food delivery he unpacked and organised it all immaculately for our arrival! He was on hand for any questions during the stay and also topped up the hot tub with fresh water every morning! Location is fantastic too, with a bus stop right at the top of the drive. Clean and very well maintained. It's our second visit here and we'd absolutely recommend to all.
Michael
I recently stayed at The Retreat with 8 friends for a long overdue catch up. The house is lovely and in such an amazing location. Watching sunset over the valley is very impressive. Our hosts were on hand for any info and pointed us in the right direction for a walk into Hebden Bridge on the Saturday. We would definitely visit the Retreat again.
Jonathan
The perfect country cottage for piece and quiet, in a lovely rural setting. Some great home comforts, and high end finishes makes this a treat for any family get away. Put away those electronic devices, the wifi is for checking the weather forecasts only, and enjoy evenings in the hottub after a days exploring.
Melissa
Great house, it had everything we needed and we had a great time.
A really excellent property in a beautiful location, perfectly clean and with everything we needed for our stay, even a welcome hamper. Its so peaceful here and the hot tub and outdoor bar area made it really special. Owner helpful and made sure we knew he was available if we needed anything during our stay.
Rebecca
Thank you for providing a stunning house for our friends hen party. No complaints only happy memories, couldnt ask for more.
Nathan
Stunning property, Mark and Joanne the owners we're equally helpful and always there if we needed anything. We hire group houses pretty much every year over the new year period, honestly the best one yet. Truly beautiful property in beautiful surroundings. Really close to Hebden Bridge, bus stop literally right at the end of the driveway with hourly busses right into the village so highly recommend doing that if you want a drink, the other way goes into Keighley which we only went to to do a food shop but apparently there's load to do there too. Internet and mobile service weren't super fast, but we had no problem streaming filmsTV so long as everyone else wasn't on the wifi. Most of the houses we've stayed at have the same problem when theres load of us all on the internet at once though so it's not anything we were fussed about to be honest. Bond was also returned in full on the same day so no issues there. Mark may aswell have kept hold of the deposit because we'll deffo be back..!
Carolyn
The Retreat was ideal for our family get together, 11 people aged 8 to 78. Mark was a friendly and helpful host and our bond was returned within hours of us leavingn We had a lovely break and would happily return in future, hopefully in better weather.
We had a wonderful stay at The Retreat, everything we needed was at hand. All the bedrooms were beautiful, beds very comfortable. We used the hot tub each day, it really was delightful, robes, towels and flip flops are provided. The lounge is comfortable and cosy, we used the log burner with the logs provided and we asked Mark for more logs which he provided for a small charge, nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely recommend The Retreat, it is a beautiful place to stay with utterly wonderful views .
Great house in stunning surroundings. The retreat has everything you could want for a relaxing break the robes and flip flops are an excellent touch.
An amazing property with every comfort and incredible views, but above all the owners were wonderful, accommodating all our sometimes unusual requests. HIGHLY recommended but please check with us first because we might want those dates!
Mark was really friendly and gave us the best welcome that you could expect. Stunning home and beautiful surroundings! The house was well equipt with anything that you might need for a stay, would not need to bring anything other than groceries. Space for everyone to dine together. Towelsrobesflipflops available for the stay. We loveeeed it and I would visit again!
The property itself was lovely, however, ten minutes before leaving we were contacted by Mark the owner claiming we had damaged the hot tub two nights previously. It was not clear to us why Mark did not discuss this directly with us at the time. Mark claimed that we had broken a piece off the hot tub and that this would cost 500 but that he was willing to reduce this to 250. I discussed with the group who confirmed they had not broken the hot tub piece and we were luckily able to provide timestamped photos showing that this piece was missing on our arrival. We assumed this would be the end of it, however, Mark refused to accept these photos and over the next few days, we were contacted repeatedly by Mark over the phone, at 10pm at night as he continued to push his narrative that this was our fault and try to get us to accept the blame and pay the fee despite the photos. Mark suggested the only solution was to go to court if we did not pay the money and he suggested we could not leave a negative review in light of the fact the property was clean. In addition to the above, we were told we would be charged for four broken glasses in the property itself which would be covered under ordinary wear and tear in all other properties we have stayed in of which there have been many. It's a shame as the property itself was lovely, however, we would not stay at the Retreat or any other property owned by Mark again.
Property is immaculate and extremely comfortable. Great cooking facilities, not like some other properties Ive stayed at before. Mark could not have been more helpful in explaining how everything worked
Jessica
We stayed for the weekend to celebrate my sister's hen do. What an absolutely stunning property set in the beautiful countryside with stunning views! The property had so much character, was immaculate, and wellequipped and every thing had been thought of in advance from towels on the very comfy beds, to hairdryers in the rooms, to the hot tub cleaned, filled and ready to go. Mark greeted us upon arrival and explained everything to us, and even put our grocery delivery away for us before we arrived. We even got a little welcome package too the attention to detail was just amazing. Mark and Jo were on hand throughout the weekend for anything we needed, just via a simple text, and communication prior to our arrival was fantastic too. I'll certainly be booking again in the future, if we have another big family get together.
Gorgeous house. Photos don't do it justice! Lovely friendly hosts too
A beautiful property in a beautiful location. Very comfortable and with excellent facilities.
A little slice of Yorkshire heaven. We were well looked after by the lovely Mark and Jo and the property did not disappoint. The views are breathtaking and the house is just lovely. We were a group of adults and children and everyone had a fabulous time. Hot tub is filled with natural spring water and no chlorine, the Yorkshire moors are your oyster here and it is a beautiful place to unwind with family and friends. This place has been a labour of love for the owners and it shows highly recommended!
Georgia
We really enjoyed our stay here as a group of friends a few weeks back. The location is just stunning we loved watching the sun set over the hills and the views across the peaceful fields from every window. The house was spotlessly clean, nicely decorated and comfortable, with plenty of room for us all around the dining table. The kitchen is big and wellequipped for cooking up a storm and we made great use of the hot tub and garden bar and fluffy dressing gowns!. There are plenty of nice walks from the door or it's a short busdrive to Hebden Bridge or Oxenhope. The owners were kind and friendly Jo was always ready to help with anything we needed but otherwise left us to enoy ourselves. Only minor issue is that the internet connection was a bit slow, but still useable and this didn't impact our stay much. In short, The Retreat is a great spot to relax and get away from it all and we'd happily go back Thanks Jo & Mark for having us!
Hannah
I booked the retreat for a hen weekend and everyone had an amazing time at The Retreat. The house is amazing in beautiful surroundings. We arranged a grocery delivery which was all unpacked and ready for us when we arrived. The hot tub was amazing and the bar just next door was a bonus! Everything was clean and beautifully presented. Mark was so friendly and helpful and really took those extra steps to make sure we had a wonderful stay. Hebden bridge is about 10 minutes in a taxi and we found some great bars and restaurants. I'm already planning my next trip to the retreat. The perfect getaway!
Samantha
A wonderful place to stay. Had everything you could need and more. Beautiful setting. Mark, the owner is great he gets up early every morning to sort the hot tub so its ready for the morning. Mark is really welcoming and helpful. Would love to come back some time and would recommend it 100! Thank you!
Amreen
Perfect stay in the most beautiful house. Every single detail that thought about in terms of facilities and comfort. We had the best time, Mark and Jo were absolutely lovely, and we would definitely LOVE to come again!
We had a brilliant stay, Mark was very welcoming and a great host. The house was immaculate and perfect for our weekend. It is an ideal location for a quiet stay, with Hebden Bridge a nice steady walk away. All our guests commented on how nice the house was, and a great time was had by all. Highly recommended!
Rachel
We are a group of ladies who regularly stay in large properties in the north of England. I can definitely say that it is the best overall we have ever been to. The cleanliness and facilities in the property were exceptional. The price was comparable with many others we have stayed in that havent been as well equipped or the owner cared so much about our comfort. I think it is obvious, that whilst it is rented to promote an income, Mark puts the quality of his customers stay above his profit. Our week was absolutely wonderful and we will definitely return.
Carole
The Retreat was a perfect location for our Christmas family gathering. The property exceeded our expectations in size and comfort. The owner is very friendly and helpful.
Such a fantastic house in a fabulous location! Very comfortable, spotlessly clean and very private. The hot tub is wonderful, and we loved the little wooden heated bar. Great location near Hebden Bridge and Haworth, lovely walks nearby. Beds very comfortable and plenty room to sit as a large group.
Absolutely wonderful week at The Retreat, despite some very inclement weather. The cottage was so well stocked with everything we needed as a family group with kids. Nothing was too much trouble for Mark if we needed help with anything or more logs for the fire. Would highly recommend this stunning cottage, the views just do not get old and change by the minute. Thanks for having us, we hope to be back!
We had a fantastic stay at the Retreat. It is a beautiful house and in easy reach by car to Hebden Bridge and Howarth. Mark was very helpful and friendly and quickly responded to queries before and during our stay.
Joseph
Great venue for a group celebration. Stunning location when not shrouded in cloud due to its altitude! within easy reach of many great destinations, pubs and restaurants. Also has its own bus stop which was very handy.
Sharon
The Retreat is a fantastic property. Everything is finished to a high standard and it was super clean. The owner, Mark, was brilliant and responded quickly if we needed anything. We stayed for my 50th birthday and the place was ideal for a group celebrating and the hot tub was an added bonus. I cant recommend The Retreat highly enough weve already rebooked for next year!
Andrew
A fantastic property with outstanding views of the Yorkshire countryside. The house and amenities are of a high standard and kept beautifully clean and tidy. Mark is an excellent host who made our party of 9 feel very welcome. Will definitely recommend to our friends and family.
Anthony
Mark is an excellent host, who is on hand for any enquiry, nothing is too much. We enjoyed the space in the house for our 4 adults and 5 children to spread out, as well as the hot tub and everything that comes with being in a remote location.
A wonderful, comfortable house in a lovely setting. Mark and Joanne couldn't be more helpful and kind, full of good advice on what to see and do. Beds very comfortable which is not always the case in holiday lettings. Well equipped kitchen, great showers. Hot tub much appreciated.
What a gem ! ! This beautiful Barn Conversion in glorious countryside was perfect for our first family holiday since lockdown! It was superbly well appointed with absolutely everything you could think of.....even two dishwashers! Situated between the pretty villages of Hebden Bridge and Haworth there were plenty of places to wander around, and places to eat we had a fantastic Greek Takeaway one night and lots of lovely walks. Coming back to the hot tub was just perfect to soothe all the aching limbs!! The owner Mark couldn't do enough for us and his family too were absolutely delightful. We can't recommend 'The Retreat' enough. Very many thanks, John, Liz, Becky, Kurt, Ben and Indy.....and 5 very happy children!!
The property was amazing! Very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The views were lovely and the host was on hand ready to help at anytime. The hot tub was incredible and it was great having bathrobes, flip flops and a bar to enjoy too. I will definitely be booking this property again in the future.
Alison
Our host was friendly, informative and helpful. The location amazing and a true break. The hot tub was ready each day for our use and the COVID preparations made us feel safe and secure.
